Inside of the wonderful Cow Palace in San Francisco, we're bringing to you the first ever SWWS Overload! The commentary team for tonight are Dilan Valentine, Lori Swick, and a rotating star from SWWS for each match. This event, aside from one match, was filmed before SWWS's Supershow last Monday, so don't expect to see any major things (Emmanuelle's debut, Isaiah Andrews and Katherine Jardine getting injured, etc) to be known on the show.
Opening Contest
Dell Jacobs vs. Chante Hébert
Guest Commentator: Bison Paine
Summary: An extreme contrast in styles in this contest. Hébert is known for his evolving technical ability while Jacobs has grown well in the power game. Paine acknowledges on commentary that the development rate of Jacobs has been unmatched since he was signed late last year. The match started even, but it was the big Australian's time to shine once Hébert made a crucial mistake. A lot of different backbreakers came from Jacobs. Much like usual, Lord Cadieux, Marisol Vilaro, and Michelle Jenkins were scouting the man known as Mr. Smug. Not quite a 50/50 match here, Jacobs came away with the victory in 5:14 with the Human Torture Rack.
Winner: Dell Jacobs
Note: Following the contest, Marisol Vilaro actually slipped her business card over to Chante Hébert as he left. This seemed out of the blue, but it looks like Hébert might be on his way to starting the Vilaro System.
Tag Team Contest
Tammy Huynh & Nila Rich vs. The Vegas Strip (Rachel Vegas & Ruby Garner)
Guest Commentator: Ava
Summary: This was an excellent showing from both teams early on, trading the advantage in the first few minutes with excellent chain wrestling. Rich quickly became the sacrificial lamb for Vegas and Garner who worked her over to showcase why they should be considered a top contender to the Paradigm Tag Team Championship in the near future. The momentum shifted back to Rich and Huynh once Tammy got the hot tag. The crowd was one hundred percent behind Huynh and Rich, with Ava on commentary stating that everyone is looking for their next opportunity, and the biggest opportunity for Rich and Huynh is coming at Golden Wars against KAOS. After a pier six broke out in the middle of the ring, it was Huynh who scored the victory over Garner with a Torpedo Kick-assisted German Suplex for the victory in 7:18.
Winners: Tammy Huynh & Nila Rich
Note: KAOS stood on the ramp during the entirety of the match. It appears that the SWWS Paradigm Tag Team Champions are taking careful notes of Huynh and Rich ahead of their match in Tokyo at Golden Wars.
Singles Match
Yoshiharu Kubo vs. Raymond McFly
Guest Commentators: Banch Morgan & Athena Daze
Summary: This was McFly's first ever pro wrestling match, and it showed. Morgan made note of Yoshiharu Kubo and his last name, wondering if there is a coincidence of some kind. McFly struggled to even get out of the gate, but it didn't even matter. Kubo had the advantage for 99% of the contest, scoring an easy win with the Shining Triangle in 3:43.
Winner: Yoshiharu Kubo
Note: Following the contest, Nicholas Gabriel and Kraken came to the ring. A confused Kubo made the exit while they climbed in. Gabriel gave a sick smile prior to signaling for Kraken to do his deed. The monster's Full Nelson quickly was snapped onto McFly. Knowing the damage it can cause, Morgan quickly called for security to get into the ring. All the guards struggled to stop him, including Kubo who got back into the ring to try and pull Kraken off. Gabriel said that Kraken will snap the neck of McFly unless Morgan agrees to find a GOOD opponent for his monster at Golden Wars. Nobody could get the Full Nelson to release until Morgan finally accepted Gabriel's demand, allowing McFly to finally be let out of the hold. Kraken stood tall over everyone around him in the ring, even swiping away several security guards. Gabriel promised the same fate to anyone at Golden Wars, since the last guy who fought Kraken in Japan was nearly killed from the brute strength of the monster.
Tag Team Match
The HOOOOOOOOOOOLY Shiiiites (CT & RJ Bach) vs. The Michigan Invasion (Kolm Moross & Abteen Sky) w/Lord Cadieux & Ford Lyndon
Guest Commentators: The Vilaro Legion & Marisol Vilaro
Summary: Brawlers vs. High Flyers, can it get any better than this? Both teams looked amazing in their opening exchange, giving the crowd what they wanted from the start. Marisol, while on commentary, stated that her team will always stand above the rest despite such an interesting exchange. The Bachs fell victim to sneaky tactics from Moross and Sky which allowed the Invasion to take control for a good chunk of the match. Once the hot tag to CT came, however, all bets were off. He lit up both Invasion members with suplexes and even debuted his new top rope senton bomb, called the Liquid Courage. The end came with Cadieux being knocked from the apron, allowing the Bachs to deliver a modified flapjack/cutter combination for the victory in 12:18.
Winners: The HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLY Shiiiiiites.
Note: Fantastic contest from these two. There was zero downtime for both teams which led to an exciting match.
Singles Match
Keiko Maeda w/Terumi Niki & Mei Koyama vs. Cassandra Rivas Portillo
Guest Commentator: Derek Trigg
Summary: The KKCC's own Maeda delivered on the personality early on against Gateway's Portillo. The kicks, however, weren't landing as they should, with the flexibility of Portillo being on full display. She had the answer in the opening stages. Trigg said on commentary that Maeda has been a great assistant, driving him everywhere and holding his coat every time they enter a building. Maeda surprised the fans with a slightly aggressive side during her comeback, not telegraphing a single strike. The finish came with a kick to the back of Portillo's head, followed by a roll through chickenwing for the submission victory in 6:46.
Winner: Keiko Maeda
Note: Excellent match between these two. Fans adore Keiko Maeda, but were impressed with Portillo's agility inside of the ring. It made for a very exciting contest. Maeda and Portillo shook hands after the contest, celebrating the great match with Koyama and Niki in the ring.
Singles Match
Johnny Sykes w/Jun Nishioka & The COBRA Battalion vs. Jake Smith
Guest Commentator: MYOJIN & Kenta Saru
Summary: Smith and Sykes didn't waste any time early in the match, using great chain wrestling despite Smith outclassing Sykes with every move that the Liberation leader to come up with. Smith looked great until Sykes took several cheap shots, hitting a tremendous Death Valley Driver for a near fall. Nishioka was yelling things out to Sykes to do to Smith, drawing the ire of MYOJIN and Saru on commentary. The Shining Star stated that before Sykes formed the Liberation, he was a very nice guy backstage but cracked under the pressure of being in the limelight. When Smith was able to garner a comeback, it was the Battalion who tried to attack him which led to Saru and MYOJIN leaving commentary to battle with them. The distraction led to an O'Connor roll from Smith to Sykes, which was rolled through into one from Sykes with the assistance of Nishioka who held onto the hands of Sykes for the dirty victory in 14:33.
Winner: Johnny Sykes
Note: Jake Smith looked awesome in the ring. He has a way about him that drew the fans in, and Sykes was the perfect heel for him to face. Nishoka provided great assistance for the Liberation Leader which allowed him to get the victory to begin with. Very entertaining match between the two tonight.
Singles Match
Andre Boone w/Isaiah Andrews vs. Ted Hot w/Chuck Funger
Guest Commentator: Eugene Youngblood
Summary: Ted Hot kicked it off by attacking Boone from behind. Boone was able to easily take down Hot with a series of beautiful clotheslines, including the final one which sent Hot to the outside of the ring. Youngblood said on commentary that Andre Boone is one of the most gifted athletes on Gateway and one of the most respectful wrestlers in the locker room. Hot didn't look strong in this contest at all, using every cheap shot he could to get an advantage, but Boone's power played a major factor in his comeback. The end came with Boone taking a Palm Springs from Funger, leading to a Back Door Buster for the win in 9:14.
Winner: Ted Hot
Note: Andre Boone cannot catch a break. The dirty tricks by Hot and Funger worked against him so much that he didn't have a chance towards the end of the contest. The sudden change in attitude of the Hot Fungers have left many guessing what their intentions are in terms of the SWWS World Tag Team Championship picture. This match led into intermission, which brought out the KKCC, Mitchell Ryan, and Alandra to talk to a very frustrated Boone on the outside of the ring. He seems to be very down on himself with that loss.
**Intermission**
Fans flocked to the merchandise tables where Dr. Runa Olsen, Matthew Knox, Donny Mason, and the Crimson Bouquet were signing autographs and taking pictures for the fans in attendance. This part was barely broadcasted aside from a wave or two from the superstars and fans.
**End Intermission**
Singles Match
Donny Mason vs. Mitchell Ryan w/Ramesses, Kimberly Chase, and Alandra
Guest Commentator: Matthew Knox
Summary: What a hoss fight. This match didn't actually take place in San Francisco, instead it was at a live event in Oakland over the weekend, hence the delay in broadcast. Mason and Ryan couldn't overpower each other in the opening exchange. Matthew Knox said on commentary that he was so used to seeing Mason dominate opponents with his strength, but he may have met his match with the Inevitable's Ryan. In a stunning event, Ryan actually press slammed Mason to the canvas, but met his own slam from Mason minutes later. They traded several high level slams, but in the end it was Mason countering out of Ryan's Dresden Strong with a knee to the face, followed by the Dambuster Boot for the victory in 18:36.
Winner: Donny Mason
Note: This was fun. Ryan and Mason battled for nearly twenty minutes without one getting a clear cut advantage on the other. Mason continues to be a dominant force in SWWS with a great balance of power and speed while Ryan showcased his endurance and power as well. After the match, Ryan and Mason shook hands in the middle of the ring out of respect. We WANT this match to happen again!!
Singles Match
Gavin Paine w/Pio Costa vs. Ramon Vidal w/Ramon Ramirez
Guest Commentators: Adrian Drake & Autumn Dusk
Summary: The two played a guessing game of who was going to score the early advantage after trading holds inside of the ring during the opening exchange. Vidal used his experience to catch Paine off guard several times, eventually leading to a fast paced exchange that finished with a high elevation flatliner. Adrian Drake noted on commentary that he and Vidal were former Tag Team Champions and he always knew that Vidal would be the lesser of the two. Paine struggled to gain ground, but eventually used his grit to fight back with an amazing snap powerslam which was quickly transitioned into an Anaconda Vice. Impressive work by the two. The end came with Vidal countering out of Paine’s Paine Is Love finish into a crucifix, but Paine rolled further back, eventually lifting Vidal back up to hit the Paine Is Love for the victory in 10:32.
Winner: Gavin Paine
Note: Paine needed a good singles win under his belt, and this was that time. Vidal looked incredible from the start, having Paine second-guessing himself several times throughout the contest. In the end, it was an entertaining bout with both Costa and Ramirez talking outside of the ring while watching the match. It appears as if Ramirez and Vidal are passing their knowledge down to these two youngsters in their own way.
Singles Match
Kamille Sokovic vs. Daniella Herrera
Guest Commentator: Ted Hot w/Chuck Funger
Summary: This match wasn’t even close. Sokovic dominated right out of the gate, using her expertise on the mat to have the full advantage. Ted Hot didn’t say a single word on commentary, but made some very awkward noises along the way. Herrera did have a small run at the end, but it was Sokovic’s night. The finish came with a Gargoyle Suplex from Sokovic, followed up with a stiff head and arm triangle choke for the victory in 3:36.
Winner: Kamille Sokovic
Note: This girl is ready for Golden Wars. A lot of people have been demanding a match between Sokovic and Galina Davidova since Prologue, and we get to see that in Tokyo. Herrera is a great wrestler, but had no answer to anything that Sokovic was throwing at her tonight. She’ll get more experience in over time, and could be a future player on Paradigm in a year or so.
Singles Match
Jimmy Johnson vs. Noach Van Norden
Guest Commentator: Donny Mason
Summary: Johnson used his comedy early on, which drew a rare smile from Van Norden. The fans were mixed on this one, with hardcore fans loving Van Norden and the casual fans cheering on Johnson. Van Nordan managed to land a chop on Johnson that sounded like an explosion, causing Johnson to scream high pitched for a moment. Donny Mason laughed at this on commentary, stating that he has taken those chops from Van Norden and they have only gotten louder. From there, it was a back and forth contest. Johnson went for the Kanga-Roo, but took knees to the back as a result. The end came for Johnson when Van Norden delivered the snapping brainbuster known as Destrucity for the victory in 11:14.
Winner: Noach Van Norden
Note: This was a fun one. Van Norden recently was announced to compete on Blitzkrieg after spending time on Gateway. This felt like the proper introduction to a hard hitting guy like him. Johnson had fun in this match, he had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand early with his comedy, but also showed that he can go on the mat when he needs to. Can’t wait to see more from these two.
Singles Match
Mei Koyama w/ Terumi Niki & Keiko Maeda vs. Faiza Bennis
Guest Commentators: Colton Saint & Zane
Summary: Koyama showcased her hilarious antics early on, not phasing Bennis from Gateway in the slightest. Bennis managed to catch Koyama off guard with great chain wrestling, overpowering her several times. Colton Saint said on commentary that he knows Faiza Bennis is going to be a big deal eventually, but there is something endearing about Koyama. He also referred to Koyama as the assistant Judge in Wrestler’s Court. Koyama managed to lead the pace through the second half of the match, taking it to the air several times. The end came when Koyama went for the cross body off the top, allowing Bennis to roll through into a cover of her own, only for Koyama to roll back into her own cradle for the victory in 8:22.
Winner: Mei Koyama
Note: Faiza Bennis looked great in this match. She has a great balance of skills that were showcased. She’s crafty for someone who is new to wrestling, but it was Koyama who stole the show with her personality and speed. The crowd loved this contest.
Six Man Tag Team Match
The Rogue Horsemen (Zach Rhodes, Kain Reyes, & Kevin Reznor) w/Chris Slayton & Ryo Sakazaki vs. The Stormriders (Amstel & Dolfjin) & Kristján Halvorsen
Guest Commentators: Ramesses & Kimberly Chase
Summary: A lot of people in this one. The Stormriders stood out early on with their zany antics, but it was the Horsemen who took advantage. The trio of Rhodes, Reyes, and Reznor absolutely steamrolled Amstel and Dolfjin for the majority of the match. Kimberly Chase stated on commentary that the Horsemen have to rely on cheap tactics to try and stand out, mocking Slayton for his fashion sense as well. Ramesses stated that he had no actual problem with Sakazaki until he decided to attack. The hot tag came to Halvorsen who took it to all three members of the Horsemen in the ring. He unleashed a lot of fire until Amstel tagged himself into the ring. The finish came just moments later with the Gotch Special coming from Kain Reyes to cause an Amstel submission for the win in 12:38.
Winners: The Rogue Horsemen
Note: Good showing by the Rogue Horsemen. The Stormriders struggled throughout the contest due to their lack of experience, but Halvorsen really stood out for that team as a guy who might have a future in this after all. Slayton and Sakazaki stared down Ramesses and Kimberly from the ring for the entirety of the match, adding more tension to their contest coming up in Tokyo. Not a bad match!
Singles Match (Non-Title)
SWWS Pacific Champion Dr. Runa Olsen vs. Justina Jade
Guest Commentator: Akiko Igarashi
Summary: Olsen and Jade battled it out from the start. It was a great game of human chess as the two attempted to upstage each other with nice chain wrestling. Olsen had the advantage for most of the contest, carrying her momentum after winning the Pacific Championship at Blind Date. Akiko Igarashi stated on commentary that Olsen has continued to get better inside of the ring, especially since winning the Championship. Jade made a strong comeback as the little spitfire from Gateway caught Olsen offguard with the wheelbarrow bulldog, followed by a standing moonsault for the near fall. The end came, however, as Jade went for a high cross body block, taking the Superkick from Olsen for the victory in 9:43.
Winner: Dr. Runa Olsen
Note: Amazing showing by both of these women. Olsen proves once again why she’s one of the top wrestlers in SWWS. She has been riding a wave of momentum for a while, and it continues as we head into Golden Wars. Justina Jade looked great in the contest, a lot of fire from the little lady. As a result of the good contest, Olsen and Jade shook hands in the middle of the ring following the match.
Main Event
Jun Nishioka w/Johnny Sykes & The COBRA Battalion vs. Terumi Niki w/Mei Koyama & Keiko Maeda
Guest Commentators: Athena Daze & Katsumi Kumagai
Summary: Nishioka and Niki took their time in the early stages of the match to size each other up. Katsumi Kumagai references Nishioka’s upcoming Princess Championship match with White Rose at Golden Wars, while Daze talks about how awesome KKCC are as a trio. Terumi Niki couldn’t get around the intense style of Nishioka, but brought her own stiff strikes into the equation. They had a fantastic back and forth with punches and chops being thrown. Nishoka took charge with Johnny Sykes giving her direction from the outside. She threw one of the fastest kicks in wrestling today, but Niki managed to duck under and land a stunning neckbreaker for a near fall. Those were a big thing in this match, a lot of near falls between the two. The end came as both women were looking for their big moves, but they had answers for each of them until a Twisting Brainbuster from Nishioka put down Niki for the three count in 19:04.
Winner: Jun Nishioka
Note: Phenomenal contest between the two. Terumi Niki continues to shine in SWWS with fantastic performances each time she’s in the ring. Jun Nishioka got that huge win leading into her match with White Rose in Tokyo. Following the contest, we expected a war between the two sides, but shockingly enough.. Everyone shook hands! There doesn’t seem to be any issue between KKCC and The Liberation as the show came to an end.
Fun night in San Francisco (aside from the Donny Mason/Mitchell Ryan match which happened days later). A lot of matches, a lot of showcasing. Thanks for tuning into SWWS Overload!!
